October 5
Well, we picked lots of limas yesterday---probably the most we’ve gotten this season at a single picking. There’s something about the cooler weather that most of the plants like----most, but not the okra. There are still okra growing but the plants look nakedly leafless. The black-eyed peas are happy and still producing as well.
Our winter veggies are growing! Some grasshoppers discovered the cabbage but Howard put an end to that w/ some Sevin. The swiss chard is growing well, but there have been some uneasy “What do we do w/ this stuff?” comments from the peanut gallery......the truth is I don’t know either, but how hard can it be??? :)
We haven’t been fishing in a couple of weeks; Howard is still searching for another boat. He’s seen one that’s exactly what he’s looking for up in Los Alamos, but the guy, who says he’s anxious to sell, has not sent photos and has not returned our phone calls. Doesn’t sound too anxious to me..........
The hummingbirds are gone.
